Kathmandu, February 28, Metro Manila, Philippines-Forty leaders of eleven regional and global family farmers’ organisations, belonging to the Family Farmers for Climate Action (FFCA) which represents 95 million small-scale women, men and young farmers worldwide, are convening in Pasig, Metro Manila, beginning from 2 to 6 March for a strategic workshop aimed at strengthening farmers’ collective voice and influence in shaping climate finance processes at national, regional and global levels.
The workshop is hosted by the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) and is co-organised with the Foundation for Farmers Organisations for Restorative Action (FFORA) and the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC).The workshop is supported by Porticus, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Robert Bosch Stiftung, and the Climate Emergency Collaboration Group.
The meeting comes at a critical time. As climate finance commitments expand globally, family farmers — who are at the frontline of climate impacts and central to food systems — continue to face limited direct access to climate finance and its decision-making spaces. Farmers’ organisations are increasingly asserting that climate solutions must not bypass the very communities sustaining food production, biodiversity, land restoration and resiliency.
The workshop will focus on building key priorities and concrete actions for FFCA to deepen communication, advocacy, and coordinated influence at national and global levels. Central to the discussions is the further development of a proposed Family Farmers Resiliency and Empowerment Fund, which is a mechanism envisioned to channel climate finance more directly and effectively to farmers and their organisations.

About the Family Farmers for Climate Action (FFCA)
FFCA is an alliance of farmer organisations representing more than 95 million producers across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific. These farmers produce a substantial share of the world’s food—up to 80% in some regions—and sustain rural economies and global supply chains, yet receive only 0.3% of international climate finance for adaptation. FFCA brings their collective voice to national and global platforms, asserting that family farmers are not peripheral actors but central to building climate-resilient, equitable, and sustainable food systems. The alliance calls on governments and funders to redirect climate finance toward sustainable agriculture,and ensure that family farmer organisations have direct access to climate finance and are given real and substantive role in shaping policies on climate, land, and food systems.
