\nMugu, April 21, Women engaged in commercial vegetable farming in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality\u20139 have been honored with awards.
\nIn three settlements of Ward No. 9, commercial seasonal and off-season vegetable farming began after \u201cChhaya Nepal\u201d launched a livelihood program for women\u2019s empowerment in 2078 (2021\/22). Under this program, four women with outstanding performance in commercial vegetable farming were awarded.
\nA total of 86 women affiliated with the Karmarong Women Agricultural Cooperative are currently involved in commercial vegetable farming. After receiving training, agricultural tools, seeds, and plastic tunnels from Chhaya Nepal, they have started earning well from both seasonal and off-season vegetable production. According to livelihood expert Lokendra Rawal, four women with the highest income were recognized with cash prizes and certificates.
\nAccording to Rawal, Kamala Badhuwal secured first place, Nanda Devi Rokaya second, Jirkala Rokaya third, and Banchumata Budha received a consolation prize. They were awarded cash prizes of NPR 20,000, 15,000, 12,000, and 8,000 respectively, along with certificates.
\nFirst prize winner Kamala Badhuwal shared that she earns around NPR 100,000 annually from seasonal vegetables and NPR 60,000 this year from off-season vegetables. \u201cThis business has supported my household expenses and my children\u2019s education,\u201d she said, adding that the award has further motivated her.
\nThe vegetables produced by women from Chhayal, Chimat, and Papu villages are sold in Chhayal market, the cooperative\u2019s Koseli House, residential schools in Takha, Magri, and Mah villages. With no significant market issues, women are increasingly attracted to commercial vegetable farming, participants said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
